Rodent Control
What you should know about Rodents
Homeowners will want mouse control as soon as possible. Seeing a mouse in your home can leave any homeowner shaken. Mice are some of the most destructive pests to deal with and if they aren’t taken care of right away, they can cause an enormous amount of damage. Homeowners should begin with a base knowledge of how to identify a mouse and how to prevent an infestation.
How do I know if it’s a mouse or a rat?
Because mice and rats move quickly, it can be difficult to get a good look at what you’re dealing with. In general, mice have some physical characteristics that set them apart from rats. Some of these characteristics include:
- Tails: Mice have long skinny tails with a light amount of fur on it while rats have larger tails with no fur on them.
- Color of fur: Mice can come in a variety of colors. They range from grey to white and brown.
- Size: Mice are much smaller than rats and only grow up to 3 ½ inches. They will also weigh less than an ounce.
- Head shape: Mice will have pointer heads that do not look proportional to their body size.
Habitats
Mice are very versatile in their habitats. They can live indoors or outdoors. However, their natural habitat is outdoors. Life expectancy of mice is much longer indoors than outdoors. Indoor mice create colonies, while outdoor mice tend to live alone. This is problematic for homeowners because indoor mice can cause a significant amount of damage.
Dangers of Mice
It is natural for mice to be constantly chewing. Mice will chew cord, furniture, clothing and will nest in the walls by chewing through drywall. They’re urine and feces contain harmful bacteria to you and your family. If you are seeing mouse droppings in your home, be sure to wear a mask until a professional can contain your pest problem.
