Rat Control
What you should know about Rats
Rat control has been a problem for humans since the beginning of time. Seeing a rat inside your home can unnerve anyone. One thing is for sure, you don’t want rats inside or around your home. The first thing to do is to learn about your adversary so that you can decide the best course of action to fix your pest problem.
Identifying Rats
Although rats and mice might look similar, there are a few differences that will help you know how to tell them apart. Rats are larger than mice and their heads are larger than their bodies. Their tails are scaly and roughly the same length as their bodies. Rats have a hairless tail, while mice have a light dusting of fur. They can also range in length from 10-12 inches. Rats are usually brown, grey and black in color. Unfortunately, rats have the capability of producing up to 10 pups every 3 weeks. This makes controlling rat infestations rather difficult.
Signs of Infestation
- Rat droppings – These rat droppings are black and are larger than a grain of rice. Rats leave droppings in dark areas and corners.
- Sound of rats – Rats are extremely communicative and can easily be heard. They are nocturnal so if you have rats, you will most likely here them at night when the house is quiet.
- Gnaw marks – Rats really love to chew and in fact, need to chew to keep their front teeth from growing too long. Their teeth never stop growing so they need to chew to survive. If you have rats, you might see shavings and gnaw marks.
